Association of Expert Building Consultants

The Association of Expert Building Consultants was formed to provide needed information and a venue for consultants desiring to be retained regarding legal matters as well as a source for information and a Code of Ethics.

The Association of Expert Building Consultants was formed by expert consultants for expert consultants. The founders of this association became frustrated when there was no place to turn to for information and advice on critical construction related matters. They decided to form AEBC to fill this void. AEBC’s mission is to: Provide informative and educational seminars to improve the expert consultant’s abilities so as to better serve the client. To promote honesty and integrity of the highest degree in all our services. To make available research and publications that will benefit the expert consultant’s services. To create a viable network between fellow experts, attorneys and insurance firms. 

Many inspectors can diversify their business into claims consulting, problem solving and mediation.  Excellent working knowledge of the specialty, ability to convey complex matters simply and coolness under pressure are required skills.

In addition to assisting the expert building consultant, AEBC is advocating the adoption of the standards of practice and code of ethics for the expert consultant as follows:

CODE OF ETHICS:

1. Perform all assignments without unnecessary delays

2. Be honest and forthright in all areas of services rendered

3. Honor all laws applicable to the profession

4. Complete services with the utmost of competence

STANDARDS OF PRACTICE:

1. The expert consultant shall always act cordially and with integrity to clients, client’s counsel and other experts regardless of opinion or if retained by the opposing party.

2. The expert consultant shall always protect the confidentiality of the client and client’s counsel.

3. The expert shall agree to an assignment only if within the expert consultant’s expertise.

4. The expert consultant shall avoid conflicts of interest. Any potential conflicts shall be immediately disclosed.

5. The expert consultant shall guard with the utmost of care any materials or documents received from the client or client’s counsel.

6. The expert consultant shall refuse or immediately terminate involvement in a matter where the expert consultant is asked to compromise an opinion for a fee.

7. The expert consultant shall not make assumptions or form opinions without proper investigation to warrant those assumptions or opinions.

8. The expert consultant shall respect and consider the opinions of other expert consultants regarding the matter at hand.

9. The expert consultant shall evaluate and study reasonable explanations of causes and effects.

10. The expert consultant shall always conduct testing and investigations with total integrity.
